During Guru Arjun Dev’s period this sleepy and obscure hamlet with its ‘Pool of Nectar’ became a populous city and the city also takes its name after the sacred tank inside which lies the Golden Temple or Har Mandir Sahib. The Shrine can be reached by a 65 meter long marble causeway. The gold plated canopy of the temple, shinning brightly in the sun, can be seen from afar.
