Does Psoriasis Treatment Need to Be Ongoing?

Once your skin clears of psoriasis, you need only continue to use moisturizers (lotions or a mild psoriasis cream are often sufficient). However, keep your eyes open for any new spots appearing as it is easier to treat these when they are new and small rather than waiting until they get bigger and thicker.

My psoriasis clears but comes back very soon – isn’t there something I can do to prevent this?

Although moisturizers are all that most people need once the psoriasis clears, your problem of very early recurrence after only a short time when your skin is clear can be a problem. There are some dermatologists, especially in the USA, who use a maintenance regime. This seems to help keep the skin clear if you always get the plaques in the same places. The vitamin D creams are the most popular ones to try, but you should discuss it with your doctor or consultant first. A little bit of the cream applied just at weekends to the areas of skin that have cleared often seems to be all that is needed.
